About the CGHS Band Staff


Chad Deal - Director of Bands


Chad Deal is in his 17th year as a band director and his 5th year at CGHS. He has a Bachelor's of Music Education from Troy State University and a Master's in Post Secondary Education from Troy University. Prior to joining the faculty of CGHS, Mr. Deal taught in South Georgia and Las Vegas, Nevada. During his career, Mr. Deal has received multiple nominations from his past students for excellence in teaching and has been named to the Marquis Who's Who Among America's Teachers on three different occasions. Mr. Deal is married to Amy Deal and has two sons, Max and Everett. He enjoys Jazz and Techno music, but not at the same time. On rainy nights he listens to circus marches and reminisces about the old times.





Bryan Dilks - Percussion Instructor

Bryan Dilks has been playing with the Mobile Symphony (of Mobile, Alabama) since the fall of 2008, and has been serving as principal percussionist since the fall of 2009. Bryan graduated with a Master’s degree in percussion performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in 2008, having studied with Richard Brown. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in percussion performance under the direction of Dr. Grant Dalton at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Aside from orchestral playing, he also enjoys performing chamber music and has a particular interest in minimalist music. Bryan currently resides in Grayson, Georgia. He enjoys teaching privately, working as the Percussion Caption Head at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, and participating in the music program at his church.
